We Worship, We Serve, We Play
Synod Youth Workshop, July 2018
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
– Romans 12:2
The second week of July nearly 300 Synod youth, staff, and adult volunteers descended upon the University of Tulsa campus to receive and share the Gospel of Christ and to reach out into the world around them.
The Rev. Dr. Perryn Rice, senior pastor of Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church in Dallas, served as keynote and spoke eloquently and authentically.
“Through Christ we all have the splendid and humbling opportunity to become and live as ‘new creations’ today and even better ones in the promised tomorrow.”
In service to others, these youth hauled, trimmed, built, cleaned, sorted, packaged, and painted. They also listened, connected, and broke bread with community members in need of fellowship and connection.
Along the way they also connected by sharing deeply and honestly – as they worked on themselves, their relationships with Christ, and their relationships with one another.
In a busy world, often full of too many expectations and a need for neatly-packaged answers, Synod Youth Workshop was part respite, part contemplation, and a whole lot of heart.
Quiet can be hard to come by – it can also be uncomfortable. At this workshop the quiet is available, and in the discomfort youth leaned on each other, and also into their faith.
Discover. Dive in. Discern.
