Montreat 2018

Montreat 2018 First Letter Information

The Montreat Youth Conference (MYC) will take place July 20–28, 2018, at Montreat Conference Center, Montreat, NC. Grace Presbytery Youth Ministry Committee is forming a team to travel to MYC and we need your help as we make plans for next summer. We realize that July 2018 is a long way off, but in order to assure that we are prepared we need to ask our congregations to make their commitments now.

The Youth Ministry Committee would like to know by November 30, 2017 the intentions of every congregation in Grace Presbytery regarding their participation in MYC. If your church intends to send youth (8 max) we will need to know the number of spaces you would like to reserve. You can e-mail your response to Gary Holloman

Senior High Youth Connection (SHYC)

Late each January (sometimes early February), the Senior High Youth of Grace Presbytery gather at Austin College in Sherman for SHYC: a high energy weekend of challenging theme presentations, thought-provoking and encouraging small groups, interest groups, music, worship, and of course, energizers. SHYC is planned by a special team of adults and youth from across the presbytery in partnership with the Austin College ACtivators. The registration fee is $75 by January 17 ($90 after January 18).

Fall 2017 Youthquake Info Packet

Youthquakes are retreat weekends with other 6th – 8th grade youth from all over the presbytery at Camp Gilmont in Gilmer and Glen Lake Camp in Glen Rose. During the weekend, youth will experience worship, small groups, fellowship and FUN together.Groups travel to and from camp together and stay in cabins together. Event leadership is provided by the Austin College ACtivators (Fall Events) and Grace Presbytery’s High School PULSE leadership team.

Giving Youth another opportunity to be at camp other than the summer to experience outdoor games, recreation, small group bible study and new friends.

Participants young and old love Youthquake weekends, getting away to retreat and regroup both spiritually and physically.  When the Prairie Valley facilities closed, the distance between the churches west and south of the Metroplex and Gilmont has made it difficult for the youth & sponsors to attend the Youthquakes in East Texas. An alternative facility was located to help serve those congregations in Glen Rose. In October 2013, the first Youthquake was held at the Glen Lake Retreat Center. It was the premiere event for Crossroads, the college-age leadership group, and together with a handful members of PULSE, led the weekend for about 35 – 40 participants.Several churches on the western side of Grace Presbytery combine their youth into one group out of necessity and may not attend Presbytery events. There is a need to reach these congregations.  The facilities at Glen Lake are large enough to accommodate both middle and high school students and their sponsors. Opening this event up to both age groupings would provide a great service to those churches and youth programs. The weekend activities would be a combined mixer on Friday night, all keynotes, service project and meals would be combined and all small groups and Saturday night activities would be separated by age.  If the weekend is being led by both Crossroads and PULSE, Crossroads would lead the high school small groups and PULSE would be leading the middle school small groups.

Youth Fest West

On October 13 – 15 this year the Crossroads College Age Ministry invites anyone from 6th grade to 12th grade to participate in the event. YouthFest West will happen at Glen Lake Camp in Glen Rose, Texas. There will be energizers, music, small groups, as well as free time to enjoy the facilities and weather of Glen Lake Camp. A short mission project will take place benefiting Kids Against Hunger. Registration opens at August 15 and closes on October 9 this year. Registration costs $125. Spring and Fall Worship Celebration
The Youth Worship Celebration is an opportunity for the youth of the presbytery to gather to praise God and give thanks. Worship and music leaders are invited from various Grace Presbytery congregations. Speakers are usually members of the senior class, and communion servers are youth from across the presbytery who have been elected by their church to serve as elders and deacons. The YMC recruits a special planning team to organize this service.

PULSE is the youth leadership development ministry of the presbytery. PULSE sponsors a series of workshops (September, October, November, January, February and March) that prepare youth to be leaders in their church and within the presbytery. PULSE are called upon to share their skills by leading Youthquakes and serving as leaders at other events sponsored by Grace Presbytery.PULSE is open to youth in grades 9-12. Information and application materials are available in June.

Youth Sunday on Wheels
Would your congregation welcome a unique opportunity provided by the youth of our presbytery? “Youth Sunday on Wheels” is a Grace Presbytery Youth Ministry Committee sponsored team of youth who visit small Grace Presbytery congregations and lead worship. As a connectional church, it is important for us to share our gifts with one another across congregational lines, and that is what “Youth Sunday on Wheels” is all about.
