The Organization

The Church Music Institute (CMI) is a Dallas-based non-profit dedicated to the practice, advancement and stewardship of the best of liturgical and sacred music for the benefit of worshipping Christian congregations. The Institute offers educational courses, liturgical planning workshops, and on-site and online resources to its subscribing members, and fosters conversation among musicians, pastors and laypersons about liturgy and music, and sponsors research in the field of church music.

The Position

This position requires a highly organized, personable, customer-service and detail-oriented Membership Coordinator to be the interface between CMI and the clientele CMI serves. The Membership Coordinator will:

· Assist with incoming phone calls and emails and either provide the assistance requested or direct them to the appropriate staff person.

· Maintain accurate and current membership files, contact lists and databases.

· Track member engagement and devise means to encourage member use of library databases and other CMI resources.

· Follow new members to make certain they have what they need to take advantage of CMI resources.

· Re-engage former members to help them understand the benefits of CMI membership

· Assess reasons for cancellations or deletions as they appear to determine cause of action and contact members in attempt to restore full membership

· Make recommendations for programming to encourage use of libraries and CMI resources

· Refer members to CMI staff for help with specific questions for finding music and using the libraries

· Keep statistics on use and engagement with libraries to report to CMI staff and board on a regular basis

· Keep statistics on new and renewing/disengaging members to report to CMI staff and board on a regular basis

· Make recommendations on fee structures for membership to maximize revenue to CMI while keeping membership affordable to members

Qualifications

The Membership Coordinator is a self-starter and problem solver who has experience in understanding and supporting an organization and its mission. This includes the ability to:

· Make independent decisions and address the best way to handle specific tasks.

· Communicate and collaborate effectively with other staff and volunteers

· Interact with members and prospective members in a positive and professional manner and in a spirit of gratitude.

· Organize and prioritize the workload, determine which tasks are most important, meet deadlines, and work with efficiency and accuracy.

· Possess excellent oral and written communication skills including accurate proof reading.

· Possess proficiency in MS Office applications including Word and Excel, and in internet and database searches; ability to learn new software and other technology functions.

· Maintain confidentiality of personal and financial information of members, CMI financial data, strategic information and communications, always respecting the privacy of member information.

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is needed, and study/experience in one or more of the following fields is helpful: business, education, music, theology, communications, graphic design, liberal arts. Personal experience as an active church member will aid in communication with CMI’s constituency.

Compensation

Salary is paid hourly and commensurate with skills and experience.

Work Environment

The position reports to the Executive Director. CMI is located in a modern, upscale, two story educational building on the campus of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in north central Dallas. Multiple restaurants are within walking distance. Office staff includes 4-5 individuals plus volunteers.
